Just wow! How in the world can I tell a person that knows more about music than I do what they did wrong? It’s easy…all you have to do is feel the vibe.
What is the Vibe? Well it’s simply the connection you have when a performer delivers. Either you are connected or not. This is the best way to deliver your criticism to a DJ performer. You don’t need to say anything, your body will tell all.
In general, the crowd will probably set the mood initially as you will hear conversations about the performer either before or after the event. A DJ making an impression can happen even before he gets a chance to perform on stage. Yep, this can happen through marketing efforts. Flyers can show some cool artwork and this can set a mood for what to expect.
And what happens when a DJ is way off with the audience? Well, it’s now easy to criticize. But remember that the person you are criticizing is a human, and humans do make mistakes. Should you add to the fire of constant criticisms? Or should you wait until things cool down and then try to make suggestions to that DJ? Or how about let’s just wait until we hear other reviews and compare what others say to what you want to say. Timing is critical sometimes. Let’s just say that a frustrated person usually will not listen versus a calm and relaxed person.
After a good performance, criticisms can be good. A good performer will probably want to consistently connect with his audience and the way to improve is to open for criticisms. The rule of thumb is to say what can be sustained and what can be improved. And there is no such thing as a perfect performance. If there was a perfect performance, we all will be bored in life. To be human is to have flaws. And this is why people attend live performances versus just listening to the stereo system. We all feel the need to come close to perfection. And live performance puts us in that state of mind. The audience that connects is equally part of the whole perfection process.
OK, this article is just a small part of knowing when to respect DJs and their efforts to keep us elevated to a unique experience. Without performers, our life will be dull. Keep the vibe open and let the reviews out in a manner that will benefit everyone.
